Deadline

I already have a couple of suggestions for early scores to go up on the big board. Because entries don't close for a couple of hours yet, I'll be deferring any scoring until then. Once entries close, the gaffeometer AT gmail address will serve as an excellent contact point to keep me up-to-date about the latest jackassery. The comments sections serve almost as well, but slower.

Start your error-prone candidates!

Today it's the Cons in the news!

1) Shelly Glover raises the ire of key CPC base Canadian Association of Retired Persons (which a recent poll implied was loosening its support) for implying her opponent has passed her expiry date. Glover is a mid-level profile Conservative MP so perhaps 2x1 or 1x1

2) Conservative candidate Parm Gill stated in a public forum that he had three staff working full time on visas for members of the riding. Since he isn't actually MP it sounds bad and is being called a gaffe or openly vote buying by some for admitting it but I'm not actually sure if this is scandalous rather than than just somewhat questionable. 1x0, perhaps more if it stays in the news. Thoughts?

3) Harper himself says 'you people' to an ethnic audience in a Monday speech. "Friends, I know you're here for one thing. You're here for Canada. People who live here, people who live in Brampton, in Mississauga, and Etobicoke. You people have come to this country from the world over because you believe in this country."

While it involves Harper, and Conservatives and ethnic voters is a high profile issue, I'd call this one harmless, but I leave it open to debate. Therefore 3x0

I don't have a link to the speeech but it's out there.

Test.

I'm hoping there is a delay on postings, otherwise I closed my giant post rather than published.

Drat. Anyway here's the reposted abbreviated version.

Yesterday it was Libs, today it is the Con's turn!

1) Mid-level profile CPC MP tells Liberal opponent she has 'passed her expiry date' angering CPC base group Canadian Association of Retired Persons (CARP) as an ageist attack. Likely 2x1

2) Repeat Con candidate Parm Gill tells public forum he has 3 full-time staff working on constituency visa requests, despite not being an MP. This is being called a gaffe and admitted vote buying but I'm not sure this is scandalous so much as questionable. Will have to see if this goes anywhere. Thoughts? 1x0 or 1x?

3) Harper says 'you people' to an ethnic audience. Full quote "Friends, I know you're here for one thing. You're here for Canada. People who live here, people who live in Brampton, in Mississauga, and Etobicoke. You people have come to this country from the world over because you believe in this country."

It's Harper himself speaking to an ethnic audience and using a term which could be high cause for scandal, but in such a positive context I'd consider the use harmless. 3x0

It's the number of links - it sends the comment to the spam filter until I notice it. I'll see if I can shut the filtering off for the duration, or at least until actual spam becomes a problem.
